Why Nourishing Souls Might Not Be What You Think

Before you think you have to hide your poptart to read this, there is something I need to tell you.  I don’t really care what you eat.

What I really care about is not what’s on your plate or in your hand, but what is in your heart.  I care about you being happy.  I care about your kids feeling happiness.  I care about how your kids feel inside.  There is nothing more important to me or closer to my heart than children.

Inside each child there are an abundance of gifts just waiting to blossom.  There are also a ton of feelings.  Children are born as perfect gifts from the creator.  As they grow they take in the world around them through observation and interaction.  Some things are amazing and others create confusion and sadness.

Don’t think I am one of those people who thinks everything always needs to be happy.  Quite the contrary.  I see life as experiences.  Experiences that we learn from.  As long as we are learning, progress is made.  Feelings are our guide to know what we want more of and what isn’t working.   Feelings are not bad, it is what we do from there.

By now you are probably confused as to why I post pictures of food…

3 reasons:

1.  Our food influences our mood/behavior.

This is 100% true.  If you think I am crazy ask yourself this one question.  Why do people drink coffee?  -To become more alert.  Case in point.  We cannot be so blind to think that coffee, alcohol etc. change our minds, but other foods don’t.  If your child is having behavior problems, change your diet and I guarantee you will notice changes.  Think it is too much work to change your diet?  Ask yourself this -How much work is it to deal with a behavior issue?

2.  We make food choices according to how we feel.

When do you reach for the sweet stuff?  When we feel bad, sad, overwhelmed, stressed out.  We also celebrate happy occasions with sweets.  Why opposites?  Simple.  If we eat sweets when we are happy (celebrating and in a good mood) then we crave that sweet high when we are stressed and overwhelmed in an effort to get back to the happy.  There are hundreds of books on the topic of eating habits due to feelings.  I had the good fortune of hearing Geneen Roth  give an incredible witty talk about food and feelings.  Think about comfort foods.  Why do you think they are named that?  We get comfort from eating them.

3.  When you eat healthy you feel good mentally and physically.

No explanation needed.  : )

Health is not defined just by food, but also by the health of relationships, spirituality, physical fitness and our day to day schedules.  Health coaching is an all inclusive, holistic approach of creating better wellness through awareness.

Awareness of not only the health of our bodies, but the health of our own behaviors.  My heart breaks when I hear parents complaining about their kids right in front of their kids.  How do the parents expect their kids to listen and respect them if they (the parent) just disrespected the child.  Can you imagine talking about one of your friends and how annoying they are with them standing next to you?  Nobody in their right mind would do that, yet I hear people doing it everyday about their kids to other parents.

We live in a world that seems disconnected, but in reality everything is connected.  Through health coaching you will be guided to see the connections between your behavior, your childs behavior, your food, your mood etc.  The whole picture.

What is a health coaching session like?

In a health coaching session you (not me) will get a chance to talk.  A chance to say what your goals are for health.  A chance to say what is important to you and your family.  A chance to be supported.  A chance to realize that you can have a happier, healthier life.  A chance to give your kids that solid foundation that every parent dreams of.

The “answers” do not come from me, but from you.   This is why I can tell you with confidence that this health coaching program can and will change your life.

Will I give you suggestions?  Sure, if you ask.  I can tell you experiences, I can give you options, I can tell you what I have learned, but it is up to you to decide what is right for your family.

With love,

Summer Joy
