When was the last time you saw advertisements for apples?

Food marketing and food branding is BIG business.  The processed food business spends millions of dollars to convince you to buy something that most likely is not good for you.

When was the last time you saw an ad for an apples?  A carrot? Broccoli?  Spinach?

Open your cupboards and see how many processed foods there are.  You can live without every single one of them. So the question becomes, why did you buy them?

We have been innondated with food marketing for so long that it does not even occur to many people that processed foods like crackers containing bleached wheat, high fructose corn syrup, preservatives and artificial flavorings are not real food!

Growing up my mom always said, “The box has more nutrition than what is inside of it.”

Real food is the whole food, unprocessed.  Food in its natural form without chemicals, preservatives, stabilizers etc.

Processed food is meant to be able to sit on the counter for YEARS without changing or spoiling.  Try setting an apple or a carrot on your counter for years.  It starts to decompose within a week or so!

Children sadly are hit with food marketing all the time.   They see something colorful and in a package and beg for it.  Parents are so used to seeing ads for it that it seems normal to purchase it.  Companies spend money just to make you think it is ok.

Everyone knows that pop is not good for you, that is not a surprise.  Now think about how much the pop industry advertises and supports events? Why do you think that is?  So you begin to think it is ok to drink it and you override your intuition.

But my kids are ok, they are not sick you say.

Here lies the problem.  Food is a building block for our body.  Our bodies are meant to function so efficiently in all circumstances that they can go for years without visible health changes.

The sad part is that eventually the body has a hard time and can develop diseases.  These diseases often come later in life and people say, ” Isn’t is sad that they got cancer ( or diabetes or heart disease etc.)

The GREAT news is that you can start making small changes today that will DRAMATICALLY improve your child’s health.

  • Eat vegetables at every meal
  • Embrace fruit as nature’s dessert
  • Drink more water
  • Try 1 new food a week
  • Eat less meat
  • Eat less packaged foods
  • Have dinner together

Simple changes can create big results!

Some may be small, others huge! Give it time.  Your body will thank you for it.  What if you could live disease free?  There are people who have reversed diabetes just through food!
