The Rhythm of Life

Recently we had some fabulous guests at our house.  For 5 days we explored the city while the cousins laughed and played.  We went to museums, to schools, walked on the bike path and of course ate some food.

I always talk about how different we eat and live, but it never really sinks in until we have visitors.  When I serve a salad for the 3rd time as the main meal my guests probably think I am crazy.  As I am making breakfast I forget that not every tastebud thinks a berry smoothie that contains fish oil and alkalizing greens isn’t the best way to start their day.  : )

I also find out that I am way more scheduled than I think.  Not scheduled in a bad way, but as a family we have our rhythm figured out. The rhythm of our food and sleep schedule.

So after eating a heavy, greasy meal late last night it shouldn’t surprise me that I spent the night tossing and turning with a sour stomach.  It also shouldn’t surprise me that this morning the thought of food makes me want to run down the hall to the bathroom.

My body is out of its natural rhythm. I have stayed up later, eaten supper later and eaten meals much heavier than we normally do.  My body was able to take the change for a few days and finally said – enough, I want my rhythm back!!!!

This morning I am thinking about all the people who generally feel sluggish throughout the day or who have stomach or sleep problems.

What if you made 1 simple change?

What if that 1 simple change made everything else fall into place?

Would you do it?

I ask the question would you do it because so many people talk about how they would do anything to feel better, but in reality many would rather keep their same habits.

What is that 1 single change?  To listen to the rhythm of your life.

Our entire body functions through rhythm- our breathing, our heartbeat, the blinking of our eyes.  Our liver goes into action around the same time every night – about 3am.  Not only doses our body have its own rhythm, but so does the rest of our world.  The sun comes up and goes down each day as part of the rhythm of nature.

What if?

  • For 1 week you went along with the flow of nature and went to sleep shortly after dusk?
  • You rose with the sun?
  • You ate only when you were hungry?

How would your life change?

I challenge you to try it.  This “experiment” is health coaching at its finest!  See health coaching isn’t about being told what is right and what is wrong, it is about reconnecting to the world around you – your life.  It is about noticing how making small changes can provide HUGE results.

As always, I would love to hear from you regarding your experience.

Kind Regards,

Summer Joy
