Let Steve Jobs Inspire Your Parenting

The world has lost a visionary, but we have gained the importance of seeing what is accomplished when one believes in reaching for the best.

As I read and listen to videos regarding the life of Steve Jobs, the same words were carried through as a common thread – core values, visionary, perfectionist, simplicity, core principles, brave, bold, innovative, leader, entrepreneur, passionate, creative, legacy, impact.

Steve Jobs was clear in what he believed in.  He was clear in making the world a better place.  He was clear in what mattered in life -following your heart.

Watch his speech from Stanford and you will be moved.  He was an artist who followed his intuition.

While Steve Jobs was extraordinary, I believe that we all are extraordinary.  It is there laying dormant until we choose to honor who we are and pursue greatness.  This pursuit of personal greatness can change the world when we are passionate about making the world a better place.

Instill in your children values that reflect wholeness, creativity, passion, gratitude and most importantly philanthropy.  You can do this everyday.  It does not have to be complicated.  Think of the simplicity that Steve Jobs strived for.  Building the operating systems for Mac, the iPhone or iPad were not simple.  There were great details that needed to be attended to, but the end goal was to create something that was simple to use.

As a parent, your initial journey with your child is like building a computer.  It takes constant thought, dedication and communication.  It takes attention to detail.  It takes the ability to see the potential for absolute greatness.  It takes passion.  It takes action.  It takes seeing the bigger picture.

Parenting does not come with a handbook, but if you strive for greatness yourself you will inspire greatness in your children.  Believe in who you are and believe in greater heights for this world.  Let philanthropy guide you.  When we teach children to love and care for others we also teach them to love and care for who they are.  That is simplicity.

Talk with your children.  Listen to your children.  Guide your children. Learn from your children.  They are looking to express themselves creativity in a world where busy-ness is all we talk about.  This does not mean you let your children talk back to you as a form of expression, but rather you raise your expectations and theirs of what it means to be a good human.  A human who respects who they are as individuals and a human who respects who others are as individuals.  A human who sees the value in working together.  A human who sees the value in loving humanity.  A human who sees the value in striving for the best in ways that might seem impossible.

When loving humanity is in one’s heart, it is easy to see that by raising our expectations and reaching for the best it is the ultimate way to contribute back to the world.

Thank you Steve Jobs for inspiring people to know that anything is possible when you believe, are passionate, follow your heart and give back to humanity.

“There is no reason to not follow your heart…have the courage to follow your heart and intuition.  They somehow already know what you truly want to become.”         – Steve Jobs
