food dye reaction

It is a cold or food dye reaction?

So your child has a constant runny nose, is it really a cold or could it be a food dye reaction?
Artificial food dyes started creeping into our food to make it look more presentable, more fun. I mean who could resist these brightly colored gobs?
Quickly, artificial food dyes became the perfect marketing tool for big corporations because they got people to buy food that otherwise would not look so appealing.  The FDA happily went along with it all.  Many parents went along with it too.
However, things are starting to change.
Parents are sharing stories of their kids reactions to Red 40.  Others are starting to question the ingestion of coal tar (yes, that is what food dyes are made from.)
Even the FDA is starting to wake up.  Slowly.
Some artificial food dyes have already been banned because they are suspected to cause cancer and adverse reactions.  According to Wikipedia the FDA extended the use of FD&C Red No 2 a total of 14 times (yes 14 times!) before it was banned for use.  It took the FDA awhile to admit this apparently…
Perhaps you have heard about hyper kids and red40.
Hyperactivity is just one of the responses to food dyes.
Did you know that your child’s runny nose  and sore throat could not be a cold but from food dyes?
Here is a link to an article that lists various reported reactions to Red Dye.  http://www.ehow.com/about_5031986_signs-symptoms-allergy-red-dye.html

Our bodies are made to get rid of substances that are harmful to our health.  Each person’s body is unique and thus will try to get out the toxic substance in various ways, eczema, diarrhea, join pain, runny nose etc.  Some bodies are so overloaded with toxic that they cannot get rid of it and thus take the substance and create a fat globule around it to protect the body.
Now that you are ready to give artificial colors and dyes the boot, where do you start looking (other than the obvious sweets?
Artificial food dyes can be found  in bread, pickles, muffins, chips, crackers, yogurt, sports drinks, ice cream, candies etc.  If it is pre-made and packaged, it most likely has colors and dyes.  Stick to “god’s colors” as my boys call them, bright foods such as raspberries, spinach, beets etc.  Although sadly, even some oranges are dyed orange to make their color more even!
The world is full of marketing hype and sadly, this is the ONLY reason why artificial dye’s exist -for us to buy food that looks more colorful.
Instead of buying the hype, buy health.  Invest in your health and the health of your kids.  Eat clean, real foods and you will have less stuffy noses, less colds, less behavior issues and less trips to the doctor.
What parent wouldn’t want that?
To your health!
