How Nature Reduces Stress

The other weekend we were all feeling a bit stir crazy! Our to-do list was huge and our kids were loud.  Not a good combo.  We knew that we had to do something to reduce the stress in our house, but what?

Instead of fighting our situation and adding more stress to our lives, we decided to go out for a walk.

Going outside is one of the best ways for coping with stress or reducing stress in your life.  It is simple, easy and free!

Immediately after getting to the park our souls felt a sense of calmness.  We were all smiling and skipping along the path.  We simply forgot about our all-important-must-do-now-or-else-to-do-list.

The view was breathtaking.

There were laughs and squeals of excitement from the boys as they explored along the path and river banks.  “Mom, I have already seen 3 animals!” one declared.  “Look at that little flower, wait, look at that tree mom!” the other one said.

The boys quickly scrambled down to the river and started playing.

They found an unknown treasure of moss in the water.  Their boots and shoes wet- they dived in with their little hands to find the best pieces of moss.  Up the river bank they came cradling their newest treasure.

Everyone was happy~

Isn’t it amazing what nature can do?  It should not surprise us, for we all came from nature, we are all still part of nature!  How easy it is to forget that when we get in our man-made houses and our man-made cars and our kids play with man-made plastic toys.

We ARE nature!  We are meant to be in nature.  So the next time you feel like you are going to explode from stress, go take a walk outside and by all means, take your kids with you.

Cheers,

Summer Joy
