Dancing in the Rain

It is easy to get caught up in the rush of things.  Yet, it is also easy to create moments that count.

Last night as the rain poured down I called to my husband, “The gutter must be full, it is running over.”  Quickly he grabbed the ladder and went to fix it.

Meanwhile my boys pulled on their rainboots, found their umbrellas and went out to join him.  Seeing the excitement in their eyes, I found my favorite pink polka-dotted rain boots and headed out the door too.

“Mom, you forgot your umbrella!”  my son exclaimed.  “Why yes I did.  I want to splash in the puddles,” I replied.  Soon there I was jumping and splashing like a six-year-old.  The other son said, “mom, you are getting me wet!”  “Yes,” I replied. “That’s the point.”  He thought for a moment and then I heard him mutter, “oh, well,” as he walked up to the porch and put down his umbrella.

Minutes later all 3 of us were drenched head to toe!  Soon my husband joined us, smiling the whole time.  We stood in the street creating mini-dams with our rainboots and splashed until the rain no longer felt warm, but a little chilly.

As we came inside drenched, my kids exclaimed, “this was the best rainstorm ever!”    My husband and I both said, “that is just what we needed.”

There is nothing as refreshing to the soul as being a kid in the rain.  When was the last time you splashed in the puddles and danced in the rain?

Much happiness,
